This reminds me of formal parties… there were no ash trays and everyone smoked. This one could be something else… not sure. The host would walk around with the handle for others to ash or put out the cigarettes. Way cool peice!

@emc_2rd You are correct! Hosts or butlers would provide it for ashes or cigarette put outs. Another use is/was for upscale restaurant waiters to brush crumbs off of tables into it during dinner and/or between courses. Thanks for your note!! A great tool or at least definitely a great conversation piece! :)
