pimpinghandbags This is really interesting. If I am reading this right, Ostriches are not native to the USA? That all ostriches in the USA can be tracked back to these original imports?

cjboken @pimpinghandbags South Pasadena historian here. While the imports from this farm certainly do have a legacy, others were importing them as well. But yes any ostrich in America can be traced back to Africa via one of these imports, after which they were breed to increase the number.

cjboken @frybird504 South Pasadena Historical Museum Archivist here. It’s an absolutely incredible story, not only the bringing of them over but the immense popularity that came about from it. The Disneyland of its day! People would hand feed oranges to the ostriches to watch the lumps travel down their necks. Come visit us at the museum to see many of these artifacts including egg shells, feathers and much more!
