A lovely, Sunbonnet Sue quilt, likely from the 1930s, with swell examples of 20s & 30s cottons. All hand sewn, the appliqued Sues are embellished with embroidery. There are seriously worn areas along one edge, as shown, and a very little bit at the other end edge. There is general light dinge and various age stains on the back, and a few stains that show on the front. There's also a tiny tear below the Sue with pink bonnet, and another on the back (2nd back photo).
Depending on how it's displayed, this quilt can be used as it is. Except for the worn places, the front looks fine. But it's also a cutter quilt that can be transformed into a smaller quilt, possibly 30 pillows, and other projects.
The worn areas could be restored with some clever patching (maybe using a fusible or Bo-Nash). If washing, check out Retro Clean, a mild sodium perborate bleach used by textile restorers (their site and others have washing how-tos), sold on Amazon, etc. and in larger quantities via restoration and laundry supply sources. The often recommended vintage textile detergent Orvus WA paste is found via Amazon, quilt and restoration sources, and farm and animal supply stores--it's a popular horse and pet shampoo (expensive in the big tub, but the sample size will do).
