The model for "Dreams of Long Ago" which appeared on the Post on August 13, 1927, was a unique character named James K. Van Brunt. Rockwell himself said "The day he turned up at my studio was one of the luckiest days of my life". Van Brunt claimed that he was a veteran of Antietam. His most outstanding characteristic is his mustache, which measured a full eight inches from tip to tip.
