RARE! Mid-Century Danish Modern, 1960's Pepper Mill by Richard Nissen. This was an estate find from a grand old home in Upstate New York. Hand turned wood. Beautiful design and quality craftmanship. I am not sure what kind of wood it is. Note: It was hard to photograph the exact color of the pepper mill. Notice the second photo taken on a black background. It photographed differently depending on the background. Marked: Nissen, Denmark, Peugeot on bottom The grinding mechanism inside is quality steel from Peugeot. Heigth 6 1/2" In good vintage condition.It shows normal light use with age. It could use a little cleaning and polishing. I will leave that up to the buyer, I do not want to damage it. Please see photos for a better idea of condition. Richard Nissen was the third generation Nissen that took over the wood products factory/sawmill from his father in the 50s. The Nissen family business was founded in 1890. In the first years of its existence it mostly made barrels and similar products. In 1955 Nissen became the main contractor for all the wooden product lines from the American company DANSK design, where the famous Danish designer and sculptor Jens Harald Quistgaard was head of design. All those highly sought after wooden DANSK Quistgaards designs were all made by Richard Nissen. The cooperation ended as wood crafting in Denmark became too expensive for DANSK. As of 1971 Richard Nissen continued to design and make wooden product under his own name.
