Vintage MMA Tutankhamen Water Lotus Pendant 15” Chain 1976

Vintage MMA Metropolitan Museum of Art Egyptian Revival Blue Lotus Blossom Amulet Charm Pendant. The pendant charm is signed "MMA 1976" and measures 3/4" x 7/8". 15” chain included. The pendant has been well-maintained and cared for over the years. It is in excellent vintage condition. ------------------------------------------------- Lotus XVIII Dynasty, 1567-1320 BC The water lily, called a lotus by the Greeks and Romans, grew abundantly in the Faiyum and Delta marshes and in pools and canals along the Nile Valley. Two types, the blue and the white, were represented in Egyptian art. The blue lotus, with it's delicate perfume, was the most sacred. It suggested the perfume of divine life. A papyrus text from Dendera tells us that "the sun, which was from the beginning, rises like a hawk from the midst of its lotus bud", relating the lotus to the creation of the world. The lotus as adopted as the floral emblem of Upper Egypt. This lotus pendant is an adaption in 24kt gold electroplate with enamel of a detail found on Tutankhamun's jewelry.
