The vases were made for export or souvenir for foreign visitors to Japan in the early 20th century, also known as Kyo-satsuma, the porcelain ware made by Kyoto kilns. The mark on the bottom reads, Kusube. Kusube Yaichi ( 1897 - 1987 ) is a known Kyoya-ki artist/kiln but a vase like this one was his or his family's studio factory line of products commissioned by the hotels or the merchants.
