Originally named the Kanawha Glass Specialty Company, this factory was founded by D. P. Merritt, who had been production head of the recently closed Dunbar Glass Corporation. Initially, they made blown crystal and cut and decorated glass from other factories. In 1957, they became the Kanawha Glass Company. Beginning in 1960 they expanded production to include colored glassware, much of it offered with a crackle finish.
In 1969, they merged with Hamon Glass in Scott Depot, West Virginia, continuing to operate the two factories independently but with their products intermixed in catalogs. In 1987, the Kanawha company was sold to Raymond Dereume Glass and moved to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, but was only operated by the new owner until 1989.
