A beautiful piece of Irish history!! Julian Vard was a furrier and made high quality fur and leather coats in Dublin from the 40s to the 80s. This an authentic coat from the 60s or 70s based on the label. It is marked a size 16 but check pic measurements - pit to pit is approx. 18 1/2. It is in excellent condition for the age. The leather is soft and clean as is the lining. It has lining ribbons on right arm to help pull the coat on - so unique! See pics for any flaws, very small cut in collar (hard to see) and small ink mark on front.
History: Julian ‘Julie’ Vard (c.1925–1996) co-founded the Spartan Wrestling Club & was one of Ireland's best wrestling coaches, working with the Spartan Club and also the Maccabi Wrestling Club, both of which eventually shared a gym on Adelaide Road. He was a naturally laid-back and relaxed individual, patient and witty, and these qualities helped him to become not just a top-class coach but also a highly respected referee. He was also in the clothing trade, specialising in sheepskin and leather from his shop in Aungier St., Dublin.
