Vintage Italian Gilt The Virgin of the Grapes Wooden Hinged Jewelry Box

- Small, gilt, wooden jewelry or trinket box, embossed with berry-like, organic stems in the sides - Depicting "The Virgin of the Grapes" on the top— a Baroque period reproduction by Pierre Mignard from 1640, the original of which is in the Louvre. Inspired by Raphael's paintings of the Madonna and child - Box is possibly from between the 1940s to 1970s, based on research conducted on this piece, and made in Italy. Third photo shows that it has a faint 'Italy' stamp on the bottom - Gold leaf has also been applied inside, presumably newer, and there is a brick red, matte painted bottom, with two little metal hinges on one side - The façade has a little bit of wear on it, where the gold has rubbed off, in addition to slight crazing (crackling) of the gold paint on the exterior sides - Pretty, little box to hold your earrings or other small objects, or just a box to collect Measurements: - Length: 3" - Width: 3 1/4" (second to last photo shows measurements in perspective, so it is slightly deceptive) - Depth: 1 3/4"; 1" interior bottom
