Vintage Handmade Richard L. Synek/Charles Martel Rare Chess Set Hand created by Richard Synek It is in great condition and very rare Richard L. Synek (American, d. 2014) chess set, originallydesigned by and dedicated to Charles Martel (c. 688-741), Prince of the Franks who won the Battle of Tours, Oct 10-11, 732 AD. It comes with wooden box with hammered copper playing board embossed with greek cross and geometricpatterns, affixed to lid with a brass latch opening to reveal a burgundy velvetlined fitted interior 32) metal playing pieces with bronze and nickel plating to represent the contrastingsides. Playing pieces ranging in size from 2" to 4 1/8" H. Box 2 3/8" H x 16 1/2" square. Second half 20th century.
