Hand Carved Soapstone Chinese Guardian Lion / Foo Dog Sculpture This vintage Chinese Stone Seal, often referred to as a "chop", features a carved guardian lion, also known as a Foo Dog. Foo Dogs are significant in Chinese culture, symbolizing protection, power and prosperity. Believed to be carved from Soapstone as per local Rock Shop opinion. This piece is Not Engraved. Measures approximately 5" tall x 2 1/4" wide x 2 1/4" deep. Weighs over 2 pounds. Has a small chip near the top of the head as well as on one lower corner of the solid base (see close-up photos).
