Vintage German Amethyst & Clear Color Rhinestone Brooch

Rhinestones originally were quartz pebbles found in the Rhine River in Germany. They were so highly coveted that when they were no longer available created a man-made imitation from lead glass. This is an example of the beautiful workmanship. It has ten larger amethyst color stones and twenty clear stones. All of the stones are set with four prongs. They are set in a gold-tone base, with a locking clasp. The locking clasp must be in the top position to release the pin. I have three pictures demonstrating the positions. It locks in both forward and backward positions. The brooch is a 1 ½” oval shape. It is marked Made in Germany.
