Vintage GOLD ENCRUSTED Japan LUSTERWARE / Handled Tray / PHOENIX DECOR / Rare!!!

This circular, handled tray is fresh from an estate sale and is the first offering from a matching tea set I was fortunate enough to acquire. I cannot find another example of this decoration anywhere on the internet so I cannot give you much information. The top of the tray has a rough, pebbled surface encrusted with gold and has three hand-painted blue phoenix panels. The underside is an iridescent white lusterware that reflects blue, purple, and green. It is marked ‘Made In Japan’ on the back but offers no maker’s mark. Stylistically, it strikes me as part of the 1930’s Art Deco movement. Make of it what you will. The tray measures 9 5/8 inches across and is 1 1/2 inches tall. There are no chips or cracks, just a little wear to the gold gilding on the rim (see photo). Make sure to view my store for other pieces from this set with the same decoration.
