Vintage GOLD ENCRUSTED Japan LUSTERWARE CREAM & SUGAR / Rare / PHOENIX PANELS

This stunning cream & sugar set is fresh from an estate sale and is the third offering from a matching tea set I was fortunate enough to acquire. I cannot find another example of this decoration anywhere on the internet so I cannot give you much information. The outside has a rough, pebbled surface encrusted with gold and hand-painted blue phoenix panels. The interior and underside are an iridescent white lusterware that reflects blue, purple, and green. Stylistically, the cream & sugar set strikes me as part of the 1930’s Art Deco movement. Make of it what you will. The sugar bowl measures 6 inches from handle to handle and is 4.5 inches tall and the creamer 4.25 inches wide by 3.25 inches tall. There are no chips or cracks, but there is a little wear to the gold leaf here and there (see photos). Make sure to view my store for other pieces from this set with the same decoration.
