Sitting Bull (c. 1831 – December 15, 1890) was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader and a prominent figure in the resistance against U.S. government policies that encroached on Native American lands. He is best known for his role in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, where he led a coalition of Native American tribes to victory against U.S. forces. Sitting Bull was a symbol of Native American resistance and traditional values, and he played a crucial role in uniting the Sioux tribes during their struggle for survival on the Great Plains. After years of conflict, he was eventually captured and killed by U.S. forces in 1890
