Vintage Fiji hand carved wooden cannibal fork.
- A cannibal fork, also known as a flesh fork, is a four-pronged, carved wooden object used in Fijian rituals to feed chiefs. It was specifically designed to allow the chief to participate in cannibalistic rituals while maintaining their spiritual purity, as they were considered too holy to handle the flesh of the dead directly. These forks were highly valued and kept in the spirit house, a sacred place of worship within the tribal community.
- Carved from vesi wood with rope wound around handle
- Head design on top end etched geometric designs along the body with mother of pearl inlaid
- Good condition with no cracks or chips. There is some slight scuffing to the very tips of the fork prongs.
Measurements: 15 3/4" x 2" x 2"
