Elvin M. Bright and his wife developed the process to create inexpensive cameo-style jewelry in the 1960’s, and then began making jewelry boxes and plagues in 1971. Unfortunately, for those who appreciate their beautiful works of art, the company eventually closed. Incolay stone is a complex combination of various colored natural minerals and coupling agents. Each piece is handcrafted and has a unique stone color formation, so no two pieces are identical. The name, Incolay, is a coined word derived from “in-layers of color” or “in-color-lay” beauty.
