These coasters/trivets are a soothing pale grey-blue color, finished with a semi-gloss glaze. Known as “Thistleware,” it was made in Scotland by Buchan Stoneware in the 1950s.

Bottom marking: Buchan Portobello Finest Stoneware Made in Scotland
Alexander Buchan purchased a pottery company in Portobello, Edinburgh in 1867 and production continued under the name until 2000. The bottom mark, of a thistle with the company name, was first introduced in 1949.
According to the Portobello Heritage Trust: Favourite above all of the later designs proved to be the Thistle pattern (never officially named) comprising a semi-stylised grouping featuring a thistle, heather, and bluebells, all on a sky blue background.
