Vintage 40’s A A Fatimah Bali Statue of a Man Carved Wood Sculpture (Signed)

This beautiful antique Balinese hard wood sculpture is hand sculpted by the famed sculptor A. A. Fatimah. His peak of production was the 1940’s and 1950’s. (These particular sculptures were brought back after WWII by the father of a friend.) Pieces by this renowned sculptor are now extremely desirable because it is rare to find tribal art that has been consistently signed (particularly by one of the few important carvers). Nowadays it is difficult, even for the most discerning of consumers, to find authentic pieces that do not simply pander to tourist demand. In Bali today, whole villages specialize in producing certain styles of work, much like factory lines so that trade can be easily monitored. This has greatly affected the market for genuine, vintage pieces. Fortunately, Fatimah consistently signed his pieces. Not only is this statue unique in its original design, but it has remained complete after this length of time. Figures are made of heavy wood. Figure is approx 12” tall, 7.5” wide.
