Vintage 2014 Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit

A true gem of a running shoe, one of the few Free 4.0s remaining in my now dwindled stockpile. This Pink Flash and Royal Blue beauty with white swooshes is even more gorgeous in person. The Flyknit upper of the Free 4.0 is minimally structured. No overlays, no heel counter, just a stretchy woven woven mesh with a few Flywire bands on either side of the lace rows to lock the foot down. The entire upper flexes and moves with the foot. The midsole is Phylite- Nike’s version of a blown rubber material. It functions as a foam tough enough to be used as an outsole. It translates into a fairly firm yet reasonably cushioned ride. The sole is comprised of individual pods separated by deep grooves so it maximizes flexibility. Roomy toe box and 6mm drop. At the time of its 2014 release, this shoe was groundbreaking in its minimalist approach and technology. Nike’s colorways of that time still remain unmatched.
