Vintage 1971 Gorham Sterling Silver Snowflake

Sterling Silver Gorham Snowflake. One of Gorham’s more beautiful snowflake designs and highly collectible. Gorham Silversmiths has been creating these one-of-a-kind snowflakes each year since 1970; this snowflake is from their 2nd edition in 1971 (they now have 52 editions). Gorham’s snowflakes have since become a treasured holiday gift-giving tradition. This sterling silver (26 grams) snowflake is of hollow construction and measures 3.25” in diameter. Hallmarked “Gorham Sterling Christmas 1971" on the back. Comes in original flannel pouch. Excellent condition. Snowflake can be used as a tree ornament (avoid any tree sap) or as a necklace pendant, hung from either a silver chain or colorful ribbon. A perfect holiday gift for anyone born in 1971! A little history about Gorham: Gorham Silver was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1831 by Jabez Gorham in partnership with Henry L. Webster. In 1905 they opened a sales office on Fifth Avenue in New York City that was designed by the very famous architect Sanford White. In 1967 the company was purchased by Textron and subsequently sold to Dansk, then Department 56 within the family of Lenox holdings. As of 2020, Gorham is now part of Lifetime Brands, Inc. owner of other historic brands such as International Silver, Kirk Stieff, Poole, Towle Silversmiths, Tuttle and Wallace.
