Vintage 1950’s Mid Century Modern Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting Minimalist

All artwork was acquired from an artist, R. Wagner’s mid century home in Youngstown, OH. All artwork created in the 1950’s-1960’s were created when Wagner worked alongside popular artist Ralph Humphrey while studying painting at Youngstown University, serving as R Wagner’s teacher & mentor. In the late 50’s, Humphrey and Wagner relocated to New York, where they met artists Theodoros Stamos and Mark Rothko. Rothko’s fierce opinions and strong, personal passions visually rendered in his paintings were major influences on both artists—influences which continually pushed the artist throughout his career.
