This is an authentic, WW2-era, Japanese silk kimono robe from the 1940s. It is a beautiful gray silk with a yellow and green floral print. It is lined in raw silk.
The kimono silk is died top to bottom ombré so that the gray color gets darker towards the bottom of the kimono. It is soooo beautiful in person and the colors are hard to capture with our meager photo-skills!
This is completely hand-made and hand sewn. The traditional Japanese long hem stitch from the era can be seen on along the bottom of the robe. This is a stitch that made it easy to adjust the length of the kimono to the wearer without damage to the silk. The use of this stitch further authenticates its age as does the material, use of liner, lapel stitching and backstory.
As with any kimono, there is no sash or waist tie. When you buy a traditional kimono, you buy the obi separate. Traditionally the obi is in a contrasting color etc. you do not have to have an obi but it does complete the look.
These kimonos can go for thousands of dollars so this is a fantastic deal.
The length is 58” from shoulder to hem.
