In 1976 Villeroy & Boch acquired Heirich, a manufacturer of porcelain established in 1901. Heinrich was the only factory in Germany that specialized in Bone China, a material typically associated with English porcelain production.
Bone China is very popular because of it's bright whiteness and surprising strength. With the acquisition Villeroy & Boch wanted to add designs made of Bone China to it's catalogue. Bone China made by Villeroy & Boch was issued under both names as the Heinrich brand was held in high esteem.
