Vega Maddux Vintage Carved Carnelian and Sterling Ring

Vega Maddux Carnelian and Sterling ring This vintage ring is somewhat unusual because Vega Maddux's pieces are generally finished cloissoné. Cloissoné is a metalworking technique where wires are shaped into designs that are then filled with colorful enamel. This ring was left unfinished and is a bit more crude than her colorful and ornate pieces, but by all means, it is just as beautiful and interesting, especially if you know her work. Vega was an artist from California who began creating her ornate and whimsical jewelry designs beginning in the early 60's. This piece is signed on the back which can be seen in the third picture (vaguely). It is probably one of her earlier pieces. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more pics.
