This figural lion's head brooch is a replica of an applique in the shape of a lion's head, which is part of a collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The design is from the period of the Achaemenid Empire (sometimes known as the First Persian Empire), ca. 6th-4th century B.C. The lion's head measures 1 7/8" tall by 2 3/16" wide. . It is marked MMA on the back. It is in good vintage condition. Beautiful gift or to add to a collection.
