RARE WWII Era 1940's Blue Ceramic Bunny Rabbit Head w/Tall Lucite Ears Brooch Hand Painted/Handmade It measures 3.5" from the chin to the tip of the ears / 3.25" between the tips of the ears. Back pin closure. Materials: Pottery, Lucite. The rabbit is blue ceramic w/yellow eyes. The ceramic glaze has light and dark shades, accentuating the bunny's eyes and cute nose. The yellow eyes have black V-shaped slits that seem to give this rabbit a calm mien. Towering over the rabbit face are a pair of long pointy ears crafted out of Lucite. Made in California by Elzac of Hollywood (1939-1945), a company created by Eliot and Ruth Handler, who later created Mattel with another partner. Ruth Handler ended up designing the original Barbie (1959). Elzac never signed this piece, but it's so famous, everybody knows it. Its patent was filed in March,1943, and was simply named "Ceramic Brooch Pin" This pin was one of many ceramic pieces of jewelry created during WWII due to metal shortages using a combination of pottery and Lucite. The ELZAC of Hollywood pieces are very collectible today! For some reason there were fewer of these made or fewer survived than the short bunny with the tail. Very Good Vintage Condition, Crazing on the head (which adds to the character of the piece), a tiny bit of eye paint chipped away, there is a indent on the back of right ear that looks like it could be a production glitch. nomad59 @divasdive How does that work? I’ve never had or had any of my items in a show.

divasdive So I do a 5pm EST show on vintage jewelry and focus on 1 brand or style each night. Tomorrow I am having a guest host who knows a bit about lucite and also we all share our listings with each other - the Show is called Cocktail Hour Share - For the Love of Lucite Sip and Share. I will send you the show billboard. If you agree I can put this listing and any other lucite jewelry in your closet in the show and you can run it as an auction - closing whatever starting price that is comfortable.
