Hand carved small ironwood sitting rabbit, chip on bottom. This piece is typical of Mexican carvings from Bahia Kino, Mexico. I imported thousands of pieces from Kino and the Seri Villages of Punta Chueca and El Desemboque during the late 70s and early 80s. The Seri Indians were the original carvers of these native animals. The popularity and demand led to these carving becoming a cottage industry in Kino. While the Seri Indians used mostly rudimentary hand tools the Mexican carvers often used modern tools like chainsaws. If there are regular markings from more modern saws on the bottom of the carving, it is easy to designate the origin as Kino. The bottom of this rabbit shows this is clearly a Kino carving. The Pictures are accurate. This is the item you will receive.
