The brooch was sold in the 1940's for $2.50 and according to research 40% of the profit went to the War cause. In association with the British Relief Society “Bundles for Britain”, a knitting group founded by Natilie Wales in 1940 sent warm knitted items to soldiers in the field. This pin is often called the Natalie brooch, as on the back the nickname "BB" is noted in support of those women.
