VTG 1923 Teuila 45 Fortune Telling Cards & Booklet Isobel Strong-Field Tarot. Selling on others sites for $325 and up to $485. Rare original Teuila Fortune Telling Cards, The US Playing Card Co., Cincinnati, USA. This deck has 45 cards. The drawings are sophisticated. The instructions are very understandable and logically presented. This method is completely unique and effective. As you see, the instructions are well used but are all there. The box also shows signs of wear, but the cards are in really wonderful shape. The deck's artist, Isobel Field, was an artist and writer who had a long and exciting life. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1858. She lived for a time in Hawaii when she was married, briefly, to artist Joseph Strong. While they lived in Hawaii they became friends with King Kalakaua. In her autobiography, "This Life I've Loved," she writes, "When the Queen gave a garden party at Iolani Palace, often for the benefit of some charity, I was always asked to tell fortunes. On the backs of my calling cards, I had drawn and painted little symbols - a horseshoe for luck, a bee to signify work, a heart for love, etc. These cards were the beginning of my Teuila Fortune Telling Cards".Very good antique condition. All cards present, gold guilding on edges. Only light wear to deck. Instructions in so-so shape but useable. The cards measure 2 1/4" wide x 3 1/2" tall and the sleeve they store in is 4" tall x 2 1/2" wide. Item as shown and described.
