Viking Glass started as New Martinsville Glass in West Virginia in 1901. In 1944, the company was reorganized and renamed Viking Glass. Known for their whimsical designs and colorful glass, the company prospered until 1983 when a devastating fire destroyed the factory and gift shop, bringing to an end one of the great American glass companies. This charming owl paperweight can also stand on its own as a figurine. It is hand made of thick American glass and still has the original Viking Glass sticker. The owl measures 3 5/8 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches thick and is in excellent condition.
