UNIQUE 1940s BLACK FELT HAT WITH BLACK FEATHER TRIM

This is a unique shaped hat made of black felt. The round crown is surrounded by a short brim which is turned down at one side, which was the fashionable shape, covering one eye. The crown is also folded towards the front, creating a unique shape. A velour band surrounds the crown, as well as some veiling. There is a beautiful black feather trim that looks like a windmill adorning the top. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. Imprint inside the hat: HENRY POLLAK - GLENOVER There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. Inside circumference is 22" This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
