Circa 1956, elegant Tyrolean N.Y. (555 8th Avenue, NewYork City, NY) early plastic box purse featuring a brass frame and striking tortoise shell striped design. Post-war modernism at its finest! Lid covered with plastic and gold filigree frame. Brass components and clasp, matching plastic curved swing handle. 9” x 5” x 4” at widest points. A few flea bites - crack on one corner of the purse and brittle lid lining. These sell for $300 and up. I’ve adjusted the price re: the flea bites, but you have to look pretty hard to see them. Please view all photos well before ordering. What an addition to your vintage handbag wardrobe or early plastics collection!
Note: Generally the lid lining of these specific box purses I’ve seen all seem to be brittle. And…many are listed as “lucite” but are actually considered to be sculptural “early plastic.” Early plastic is highly sought after by Bakelite and Lucite collectors.
