Do you know what crochet is? Nowadays the term is mistakenly applied to lace that is not crochet. Crochet is a handmade material, trim, or component made by drawing a continuous yarn to arrange interlocking loops using a single hook. The patterns achieved can be lace, mesh, somewhat solid fabrics, and dimensional objects like amigurumi. Not all lace is crochet. The word has been mistranslated and misused to describe machine made lace. Know the difference, price accordingly, and spell it right!

gemfox @londonerus It is a pain to make, but it passed the husband test, so I guess it was worth it lol

londonerus @gemfox I'M SPEECHLESS!!! it is soooooo beautiful!!!!

gemfox @londonerus You have no idea how you changed things for me. I would've only seen this top as something to wear to the beach or a festival. The idea of it being worn as an every day layer expands the possibilities.

londonerus
londonerus @gemfox please tell me everything -- is it comfortable, does it look great peaking out of shirts etc? and thank you for the 411 on crochet, i see the word misused so often (i can only knit with two needles, and even that doesn't hold a candle to what YOU can do.. and totally forgot how to do the first raw of crochet.. maybe it will come back to me).. such a beautiful beautiful piece.. perfect color too :-)

gemfox @londonerus Thanks so much. I used a pattern in order to familiarize myself with the shape and proportion. It gave me a reference point to develop my own pattern. Oh and the 411 was not at all directed at you, this post is a couple days old now, and I added the pic of the top so I wouldn't have to create a new listing.

londonerus
londonerus @gemfox it looks so good on you.. i think we are built similarly (small chest & not a lot of body fat) and i think this shape of 'bra' is a really good look on ladies of our build
Jul 26Reply
londonerus
londonerus @gemfox lol i didn't think the 411 was directed at me :-))) even if it was, i wouldn't mind!
Jul 26Reply
gemfox
gemfox @londonerus Yep I think so. If you stretched me vertically about 7" I think we'd be the same build lol. Indeed I don't have much up top and with narrow shoulders this top is super flattering. Would you believe I've never considered wearing a halter until now?!
Jul 26Reply
londonerus
londonerus @gemfox if you end up making more of these i will direct all the visitors who ask me about that bra here (quite a few have asked and i keep having to say they are FP and sold out)..
Jul 26Reply
londonerus
londonerus @gemfox i can believe it! and i'm not tall at all.. and don't have much up top either.. hey at least we can sleep on our stomachs :-)
Jul 26Reply
gemfox
gemfox @londonerus And yes it's more comfortable than I expected. I literally just cut the last thread before taking that shot. It has a corset-style laced up back, so you have to untie that and the halter to get out of it. I'm sure the FP stretch jersey ones are way more weightless and comfortable, like a second skin. This top has a lot of substance and has a minimal amount firm stretch.

gemfox @londonerus I don't think I can sell this or make more to sell simply because they are widely available, I think I've seen some "boutique" ones as low as $13. This was more of an experiment for my purposes until I can develop my own style that might be easier for me to produce. This took me about 16hrs total to crochet.
Jul 26Reply
londonerus
londonerus @gemfox oh that makes sense.. $13 minus fees is def not worth 16 hours of work!! very beautiful though.. very :-)

gemfox
gemfox @zeemego Yes thank you it was a lot of little stitches, and the rows of DC on the cups were quite tedious. On the blue ones in my closet, I switched to worsted weight and knitted the cups instead. Thanks for your kind words!

gemfox @fashionfauxpas If your mom and grandma could, there’s a likely chance you can and will too. You just have to take the time to harvest the ability. It’s in there. Most of the time it’s your own doubts that keep you from doing something. And you’re right, practice develops ability. I learned all this stuff just as anyone can if they took the time. The internet is our new ancestors passing this knowledge down to us. And yes hehe I do sleep. More than I’d like to. Would rather be up doing stuff.
