Hi have you polished these? Is the bottom plastic?

@ninashosh Hi- I have been conflicted about polishing these candlesticks. I know how great they would look polished but have been told by folks who sell antiques and silver not to polish them before you sell them and let the buyer decide about how much or little to polish them. (I cannot understand why anyone would want them to look tarnished-but I guess there are those that do)

As for the bottoms- there is some kind of hard plastic- not sure of the purpose- however after looking at Towle candlesticks online - many are the same. Possibly it is to keep them weighted so they don’t tip over.
