The attempt brings her dutiful son to her hospital bedside, which, ironically, is also where Nick meets nurse Abby Fletcher (Sarah Trigger). Nick and Abby marry, decisively separating the son from his ultra-needy mother -- unless, that is, the psychotic matriarch can get rid of her daughter-in-law permanently.
