Lots of people ask me Qs about getting started on Poshmark. I have had LOTS of conversations so I thought I would start a post for other new people to take advantage of chat and commonly asked questions! I've had lots of help from others so I'm here to pay it forward! These are things I've found most important, many other people will have many other experiences. I'm just here with my own opinion. Please share your own so others can learn your tips and tricks!

drblondie One of the first things I did and tell everyone to do is to go buy some white poster board. The BRIGHTER the background and the less distraction the quicker your item will sell (proven fact)! More light more light more light! I prefer a clean, white background. But do things that work for you. Some people use props, I find them distracting personally. You can see all the images in my closet are on plain white backdrops for the most part. Do what is asthetically appealing to you.

drblondie Also, clean your lens before taking photos, that can improve the look/avoid blurry images. Also, I upgraded this year to an iPhone 7 and omg what a difference! This thing is amaze-balls!

drblondie I do research for a living so Googling and searches are my strength! Use Google! Here are tips for searching for a stock photo, use pertinent information only and consider the order. For example, “J. Crew women’s stripe button up” Notice I didn’t enter the color, that would limit the images that come up. If a different color comes up then I still get to learn the name of the item then the next search uses the proper title narrowed down by color that I want.

drblondie Zara, J. Crew, and Madewell in general all have amazing stock images that are relatively easy to locate but I’ve had a LOT of practice. You will learn tricks as you go.

drblondie Q. Why do I want followers? A. The more followers, the more people share your items, the more traffic it drives to your closet, the more sales. People who share your items reach their followers, not yours (so if a person has 50,000 followers that’s how many see that item); when you share your items you're limited to your own followers.

drblondie And the best way you can thank anyone is not to thank them, although that’s super nice in addition to SHARE THINGS FROM THEIR CLOSET! That’s the highest form of gratitude short of shopping in their closet ;)

drblondie Q. What days are the best for selling? A. Weekends! Especially Sunday.

drblondie Q. Should I accept every offer? A. NO! The more you build your network, the more attention you’ll get and the larger the net you’ll cast. I always counteroffer, but if someone offers you $20 for an item that’s $100 don’t take it personally. Some people just want to know if you’re willing to negotiate. Counter offering at least keeps them interested, declining may result in them walking away. Sometimes I’m prepared for that. Some times I have PMS too and this all goes out the window lol

You’ll find maps of things that sell by region, crazy amounts of information out there to help ☺ You'll find that my closet currently has all the winter stuff last and lots of colorful and spring/summer stuff first. So I say list everything you want to sell but share what is relevant based on the season.

drblondie Q. What about price drop? A. It’s a great way to engage. Price drop doesn’t always mean I'm selling more necessarily (although I price dropped quite a few things this weekend and it worked!!!) ESPECIALLY on SUNDAYS! People buy the most on Sundays and weekends (also Fri is pay day and Saturday people generally don’t work).

drblondie Q. How do I get more followers? A. Share! Share! Share! Share! Share items from other closets, people will reciprocate. Also, the best way I have grown is by following friendly people that help others grow! Personally I love the Secret Posh games. paynemk @drblondie Those are some great tips!! A question I have is about sharing my closet for a posh party. Is the only way to post one item at a time? It seems like there should be a way to share all your dresses(for example) at a time. It takes so long to share my whole closet. Just wondering if there’s a shortcut??

drblondie @paynemk good question! No, no shortcuts. My advice is share 10-15 instead of 100. Do what you can. Also, those parties are great when you're starting out to get the broadest views but now I share before and after those parties. Keep in mind as you grow, your strategy will change :) wish it was easier to just share all of any category! But think of the million of items here that the platform has to manage. That would be mayhem! lol

mads334 This post has been incredibly helpful! I had a couple of questions and hoping someone can help. 1- where do you find items to sell? How does one get (and store) 1000+ listings? 2- When you are lucky enough to have a high volume of sales , how do you expedite shipping? Are you running to the post office daily?

drblondie @mads334 hi T 😀 I go to the post office every other day or every 3 days. Going every day is just not realistic for me. I work full time! I own most of my items, but I also have 4 sisters so a lot of others things! Also, I LOVE estate sales so I find some great stuff at those. I have only recently got a good handle on all my items. I have boxes and plastic tubs w labels by designer or items, re sweaters, skirts, jeans. Glad this has been helpful for you!

I know there's a specific term for how to manage online searches (how you make them concise and such to get the most traffic), and I think it's cool that you mention the concept. drblondie @carmenfarrar Hi Carmen :) whatever you shared last goes to the top of your page. There is no way to permanently pin a post to the top of your page. Just share those things last. No DM, I always post about shipment on the relevant item. Otherwise you can create a post on your page called Q&A or "Chat" and then make that a place for conversation, kind of like this ;)

If you’ve had an item listed for several (five) months without movement how welcome are you to lower offers. I don’t want to lowball someone, but the asking price is high for the item.

drblondie @macallanan18 Happy to help, I think starting off at 40% off is reasonable then the person can counter, or fully decline. Don't worry about hurt feelings, offer what works for you. If it doesn't work for the seller, they shouldn't take it personally. But you also shouldn't take their decline personally either. Negotiation is the name of the game, keep trying or offering so that the seller can find a price that works for them and you can too :)

jeanette0120 @drblondie oh maybe it’s the price drop. I just see postings of 15% off your first purchase and wondered how that worked. I guess maybe people put the item in their closet and then you manually apply the discount. I was trying to find out if there was any setting I was missing!

drblondie @jenijune74 Hi Jennifer :) happy to help! The idea in the Secret Posher games that I tagged above in this feed, has a crowdsourcing effect. It WORKS! I started those games March 2 and had 39,000 followers, today, May 2 (yesterday) I hit 80,000 (whoa!). I've been tracking my progress! So, for example, @freddiesfind selects a Secret Posher(s) of the day. You should follow all of the daily selected Poshers FOLLOWERS (not who they are following(!!!). There is a snowball effect that happens.

appletwotoo Hi there! Hoping you can help. I know lots of people use stock photos ( I do!) in their listings but I read somewhere that it is not Poshmark compliant even if it’s a readily available image on the internet. Have you ever heard this? And if you have permission you still have to give credit in your listing to the company. Also, have read that you can’t use company logos. I have logos in my listings but I certainly don’t want to be breaking any rules!

laparrino One of the best tricks I have found is ordering poly maulers on amazon. I found a pack of 100 for $12 so that comes out to $.12 a bag they have a tape adhesive strip so you literally just have to toss that item in the bag and your done. Well I also ordered sticker paper for the labels to eliminate having to tape the labels on. It’s made my packages look much more professional
