The Swine Flu By Steven G. Economou Collection Of Pen & Ink Drawings Signed.
This is the coolest book. You will love it and it’s signed too
Steven G Economou (1922-2007), was the Chair of General Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St Luke’s in Chicago during the 1970s-1980s. In addition to being a surgeon’s surgeon, an educator, and an early leader in clinical trials, he was also a talented artist. Our family home was populated with his oil paintings, sculptures, and metalwork. He also doodled and wrote short stories which he illustrated. Our favorite is a collection of almost 100 pen and ink drawings in a volume entitled THE SWINE FLU.
This collection is pertinent currently and reflects the outbreak of H1N1 influenza at Fort Dix in 1976. This outbreak prompted a massive public health response with nearly one fourth of the American population (45 million) receiving a vaccine! As it turned out, only one person died (a recruit at Fort Dix), but 450 people developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This Swine Flu Vaccine Program was an understandable response to fears of a repeat of the 1918 Spanish flu which killed half a million people!
