The Nasby Letters" were a series of satirical writings by David Ross Locke (1833-1888) under the pseudonym "Petroleum V. Nasby."  Here's a bit more about them: Content: The letters featured a fictional character, Nasby, an ignorant, drunken, and racist Copperhead who supported the Confederacy and opposed Abraham Lincoln and the Union. Through Nasby's absurd views, Locke satirized the pro-slavery cause and the politics of the time.  Impact: The letters were incredibly popular and influential during the Civil War era, with Lincoln himself acknowledging their role in supporting the Union cause.  Publication: Initially published in newspapers, the letters were later compiled into books like "The Nasby Papers."
