tibird The law covers all Indian and Indian-style traditional and contemporary arts and crafts produced after 1935. The Act broadly applies to the marketing of arts and crafts by any person in the United States. Some traditional items frequently copied by non-Indians include Indian-style jewelry, pottery, baskets, carved stone fetishes, woven rugs, kachina figures, and clothing.

tibird The Indian Arts and Crafts Board, an agency established in 1934, has responsibility for overseeing the implementation of the Act.

tibird @macystreasures Thank you Deborah:) I happened upon this information awhile ago when I was doing research on my turquoise jewelry. I wanted to be sure what pieces I listed were accurately described. Even though I know they are genuine American Indian, I have had them for 30-40 years with no recollection of what Tribe, etc. I appreciate your taking the time to read the information!!! Ti✨✨💫💛💖💛

rockcandy4u I have lots of things passed down from grandparents. I have my gr, gr, gr grandfathers talking stick! Wedding beads..broken strings through age, lots of smaller items that will eventually go to a museum. I just love having it around me...it calms me. I would never sell these things because it would be a slap in the face to my family.

rockcandy4u I just recently met a sweet Lakota Sioux who I talked with for some time. I encouraged him to clear White Negativity by going to local Shaman to Sweat. He was so surprised that I nailed his symptoms that he called his mom in Iowa who agreed. I gave him Sage to take home to clear his living space and things and lavender to invite good spirits back. Though I'm half white I hold on.

tibird @dawn2u777 Funny how we connect to users who share are passionate about the same things.... I so want to hear more about your heritage. From the time I was in my late teens I learned of the plight of our Native Americans. My love and respect will always hold a very special place in my soul. Will you share your knowledge me as well? rockcandy4u @tibird My Mom is Apache, direct great great Granddaughter of Geronimo. My Dad is British. My Grandfather was chased by Posse thru Arizona to Mexico.. He took a white man's name from a Burlap Sack "Leighton"...renamed himself Harry. He was not allowed back on the res and was encouraged to stay away to keep whites away searching for him. Never saw his Mom again. But his 2nd cousun was Shaman who made regular visits to N.Calif to visit. Running Sun. He was a great story teller.

tibird @dawn2u777 Now I am fascinated with your family history.... My husband is part Cherokee, we both had a wonderful American Indian book collection when we met. And I was able to add to our collection 10 years ago through a friend who owns a vintage book store. Thank you so much Dawn and when ever you can please share more. Ti✨✨💫💛

jflittlequail @tibird @ hi, I had no idea this law existed. I have Cherokee ancestry. My Grandpa was born near Ft Smith, Arkansas after his grandmother’s family were forced to move there from the Cherokee tribal lands in Eastern Tennessee. My Grandpa was a very strong man with great dignity and respect for all people. The KKK burnt the cross on his property for defending blacks who worked in the Lumber mill where he was a manager. Just like to tell the story

tibird @jflittlequail I love your story, please share more. I came across this information as I was researching for some of my turquoise rings I wanted to list. After 30 years, I couldn’t remember where I purchased them or their origin. After reading this I realized I couldn’t list them as Native American, although I knew I only purchased Native American pieces. I have had a deep love and respect for our Native Americans since my late teens. Thank you so much, Ti✨✨💫💛💛💛

fabloot Leni Lenape. Sadly, I don't have much information or the knowledge of how to research. My maternal Grandmother is a direct descendant. Any words of wisdom are appreciated! I am the eldest member of my small family. Everyone before me has passed. So, there is no one left to ask.
