"The Beautician and the Beast" (1997) is a romantic comedy directed by Ken Kwapis, starring Fran Drescher and Timothy Dalton. The film follows the story of Joy Miller (Drescher), a down-to-earth beautician from New York who unexpectedly finds herself in the middle of a diplomatic crisis in the small Eastern European country of Slovetzia.
After a mix-up, Joy is mistaken for a qualified educator and is hired as a tutor for the children of the country’s reclusive and stern dictator, Prince Ivan (Dalton). Initially out of her element in the royal palace, Joy uses her charm, wit, and beauty expertise to connect with the prince’s children, all while trying to navigate the cultural and political tensions of her new surroundings.
As Joy helps the children and softens the prince’s tough exterior, a romance begins to blossom between her and the aloof, reserved Ivan. The film combines humor, romance, and lighthearted moments with themes of personal transformation and the impact of kindness and love.
"The Beautician and the Beast" is a fun, feel-good film about an unlikely romance, offering a blend of quirky humor and heartfelt moments. It explores themes of love, change, and breaking down barriers, all wrapped up in a charming fairy tale-like setting.
