There is an off/on switch so when you are tired of it, it can be put to sleep :) I put 6 AA batteries (not included) in the bottom of the swing and spoke to the bird, it repeated after me...95% of the time. I noticed I needed to speak pretty loudly to get it to repeat after me. I remember this from when we used it as a kid, the same things happened. The box says not suitable for children under 5 years of age, when little kids have played with it, they get a little scared. Maybe with all the electronics now vs 1994 kids won't be scared but that is what the box says. I am NOT a reseller. I've purged several relatives houses and now I'm selling items that don't belong in the dumpster. I've reviewed all items for flaws and done my best to note them.
