Japanese Phoenix Bird Blue & White 8" Oval Bowl Early Morimura Mark
1921-1940 cobalt blue pattern on white porcelain. These oval bowls are thicker, heavier oven-weight baking dishes with a flat, unglazed bases. There are 2 phoenix birds with 6 spots on breasts looking over left shoulders on the interior sides of the bowl. The traditional pattern Kiri (Paulownia plants) with vines and leaves flowing from them surround the phoenix birds and a Kiku (chrysanthemum flower) is in the center of the bottom. The bowls have the cloud and mountain border at the interior top rim and two kiri on the exterior side of the bowl.
Very textured thick glaze
