This is a pair of fine reproduction prints, entitled American Homestead Spring and Autumn, of Currier & Ives lithographs, from the Museum of the City of New York. They are in vintage wood frames with glass over the prints. The prints are very detailed: Spring shows a scene with white flowering trees and a flock of sheep underneath. There are several people near the house, including one doing work in the back with oxen. Autumn shows a family with three children picking fruit from a tree near a lovely house, with father on a ladder. These measure 6x8", and are hung on a nail. (Summer and Winter not included.)
This item is pre-owned in good condition; slight scratches on Autumn frame. This is a vintage item.
The original was published by Currier & Ives and entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1868 by Currier & Ives in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York.
History: As the premier lithography firm in America in the nineteenth century, Currier & Ives produced images, often idealized or romanticized, that defined an American identity and reflected what Americans wanted to believe about themselves. Over its seventy-two year history (1835-1907), the "Printmakers to the American People" sold over ten million prints of more than seven thousand different titles. Established in 1834 by Nathaniel Currier, the company became known for quickly disseminating prints of the latest news.
