Tony Lambert (1943 - May 3, 1990) was a fashion designer who died of AIDS in Manhattan. He was 47 years old.
Born Lionel Lambert in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, he was educated at @snhu. In 1968, he moved to New York City and landed a job with Beaunit Textiles.
In 1977, Lambert created Anton Knits which manufactured knitwear for Bill Atkinson, Liz Claiborne, and Richard Assatly.
In 1980, Lambert’s first collection, under his name, was presented to the press and buyers with much success. He later expanded his business to include sportswear and received the Cutty Sark Award (the Oscars of men's fashion) for outstanding men's sportswear design in 1988.
Mr. Lambert was born in Woonsocket, R.I., and began his fashion career as director of merchandising and design at Beaunit Textiles in New York City. In 1977, he formed Anton Knits, an independent production house, to manufacture knitwear for Seventh Avenue houses. Two years later he founded T/J Knit Enterprises to produce his own designs, which featured graphic sweaters in cotton, silk, and line
