Our jacket is crafted from hand-dyed and handwoven ikat with a modern check pattern. Cut to an easy shape with bracelet-length sleeves, then finished with slender internal and external ties. The weavers work under master artisan Bikshapati Kolaan in the village of Yellanki in Andhra Pradesh. He has been weaving for over 40 years, following the path of his father. The cotton yarns are carefully bound and dyed to create the pattern, then handwoven to create a soft fabric. Checked ikat. Hand-dyed. Handwoven. Bracelet-length sleeves. Patch pockets. Weaving irregularities are a pleasing characteristic of handloom woven items and should not be considered a fault. An age-old and complex technique of patterning cloth, whereby the pattern is pre-determined by tie-dyeing the yarn prior to weaving.
