Struwwelpeter in English Translation (Dover Children's Classics)
The Inspiration for Edward Scissorhand paperback
"Hoffmann also introduced the bogeyman character of the Scissorman (or the Tailor) that appeared in European folklore. In the original, “The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb,” which is one of the most famous stories in the book, the anti-hero is Konard. He has the habit of compulsively sucking his thumb, even though Konard has been warned by his parents that if he continues to do so, Scissorman would come and cut off his thumb. The kid doesn’t listen to his parents and so along comes the Scissorman. He is a terrifying and morbid creature whom later authors couldn’t resist using. Such as Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands, with Johnny Depp, which is based on the character of the Scissorman. Nobody gets tired of Struwwelpeter. It is never late to enjoy it." -Tijana Radeska, The Vintage News Jan 27, 2018
