I don't know a tremendous amount about this gorgeous sugar box... my mother paid over $1200 for it at an antique shop in Memphis about 7 yrs ago. She passed away this year and I'm "thinning" her silver items. I believe the hallmark is "L BAUMERT" or "LEAUMERT", the letter "G" or some other image, and "12" or some cursive overlay... I only remember she told me sugar boxes were used by early 19th Century wealthy people to lock up their sugar cubes: A very rare, expensive imported luxury at that time. It had the $1250 price sticker on the bottom until this week, but I removed it to give it a light clean and buff. It would still benefit from a real silver cleaning and polishing. I hope someone who knows about these things finds this. You'll get a deal you'll understand and appreciate! Must sell!
