NWOB. 7oz Shimmer Finish Rainbow Diversity Flask. Stainless Steel Flask with twist off hinged cap & concave shape. The rainbow flag became a symbol for gay Pride in 1978, when Gilbert Baker, an openly gay male artist & drag queen, was asked by Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the U.S., to design a visual representation for the LGBTQ+ community. The design underwent several revisions after its debut in 1978, & continues to inspire variations. Although Baker's original rainbow flag had 8 colors, from 1979 to the present day, the most popular version has 6 colors; The flag is typically displayed horizontally, with the red stripe on top, as it would be in a natural rainbow. Red symbolizes life, orange stands for healing, yellow for the sun, green represents nature, blue for art, & violet symbolizes the soul. The rainbow "flag" is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, & queer (LGBTQ+) pride & LGBT social movements. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community & the spectrum of human sexuality & gender. Using a rainbow flag as a symbol of LGBT pride began in San Francisco, California, but eventually became common at LGBT rights events worldwide.
